"Of Petals and Plains” combines two different folk tunes in a
light-hearted setting. The first of these originates all the way back
in England and was popular on both sides of the Revolutionary
War; being entitled “The Girl I Left Behind.” The second comes from
the Midwest and is entitled “Broken Ring”. These songs speak of a
deep love, not just romantically but also for the joy of life and
fellowship.
The Arlington Flute Ensemble is based right near Washington
DC and holds strong ties to the military ensembles there as well as
many connections to the Midwest which makes this pairing very
harmonious.
